Missouri Car Accident Info

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 51,061 people were injured in traffic collisions across the state in 2011. An additional 786 people were killed out of the 142,966 accidents that occurred. While quite a few of these were caused by unforeseeable circumstances or severe weather conditions like snow, sleet, hail, rain, and fog, a large chunk was a result of negligent driving.

Drunk driving is a very serious act of negligence that can be extremely harmful to both the driver and any who comes in contact with him or her. About 27% of all traffic accidents that had fatalities involved alcohol. 5% of all crashes involved alcohol, and the percentage increases to about 6.5% in rural areas.

The next major contributor to car accidents is distracted driving, which was responsible for more than 39,200 collisions. Out of those, 168 were killed and around 10,000 were injured. Drivers are guilty of this when they get distracted by behaviors such as using their cellphone, eating, applying makeup, or using the GPS. If you've been hit by a driver that was doing one of these things, then it is vital that you seek help from a car accident attorney from our firm. We have effective legal strategies that can greatly benefit you!

Negligent drivers are also responsible for accidents caused by failing to obey a traffic sign, tailgating, veering into the wrong lane, or refusing to yield the right of way. Speeding alone caused 23,998 accidents, about 17% of the total accidents in 2011. Collisions were also caused by people who were going the speed limit, but it was too fast for the weather conditions. In severe weather, it is important that the driver takes extra precaution and slows down or pulls over until the storm has passed in order that risks are reduced.

Info about Cameron, Missouri

The city of Cameron is located in two counties, Clinton and DeKalb, in the state of Missouri. About two-thirds of the community is in the southern county of Clinton. The shopping center and the Crossroads Prison are located in this part of town. The northern end of town is located in DeKalb County, which is included in St. Joseph's metropolitan area. The town has about 10,000 people residing within its borders, 83% White, 15% African American, and 2% Latino. In regards to gender, the city is 66% male and 34% female, while the median age is about 37 years old.

The town first started during the railway expansion in 1854. The founder, Samuel McCorkle, platted the area so as to accommodate the railroad. They named it after Samuel's wife, Malinda, whose maiden name was Cameron. The fight to reach the west greatly helped Cameron's growth as it was propelled into prominence because of the railroad activity during that period. From 1859-1881, the population grew from 100 to 3000. This was the same year that the city erected its first electric lights.

In the late 20th century, Cameron became more well-known after one of its citizens, Bob Griffin, served 15 years as the House Speaker. This was longer than any other representative had served in this position. Unfortunately, Griffin would eventually serve four years in prison for corruption while in office. Visitors to Cameron can see historic sites such as the Depot Museum, erected in honor of the railroad's impact on the town, the Veteran's memorial, the Old School, and the Tuggle Monuments.
