St. Joseph, Missouri

St. Joseph (informally called "St. Joe") was established in 1843. It is the chief city of the St. Joseph Metropolitan Statistical Area and the county seat of Buchanan County. With a population of 76,780, St. Joseph is the eighth largest city in Missouri and the largest Northwestern city in the state. As of 2010, the St. Joseph metropolitan area had 127,329 residents. For some time, it served as the last supply point on the Missouri River before the "Wild West." Many of the downtown streets are named after Robidoux's children: Messanie, Sylvanie, Charles, Edmond, Felix, Francois, Jules, and Faraon. St. Joseph was the second American city to have electric streetcars.
